How To Play Magic The Gathering

Spell Types

Creature

Creatures are a perminant type spell, generaly you can only cast these on your own main phase. Creatures will enter the battlefield when cast and will stay until destroyed. Creatures can tap to attack players and Plainswalker or block when untaped. Additionaly you can use creature abilites whenever. Creatures have a power and toughness that determin how much damage they deal and can take without dying.

Artifact

Artifacts are perminants like creatures but have additional subtypes such as equipment and vehicles. standard artifacts will enter the battlefield and have an ability that can be activated. Equipments are equiped to creatures for an additional cost and give more abilites to the creature, if the creature dies the equipment stays on the battlefield. Vehicles are more like creatures but requier crewing, this is where a creature or number of creatures with a power added to a certain number can turn the artifact into a creature that can attack inplace of the creatures.

Enchantment

Enchantments are quite similar to artifacts with basic enchantments that will have an ability. there is a subtype called aura that behaves the same way equipment do except they attach to a creature when cast and go to the graveyard if that creature dies.

Instant

Instants are a spell that can be cast at instant speed meaning whenever including as a reaction to another player activating a card ability or casting a spell. when cast it will cause an effect then go to the graveyard.

Sorcery

Sorceries are like instants but can only be cast on your own main phase.

Plainswalker

Plainswalkers are unique, a plainswalker enters the battlefield when cast like a creature but cannot attack and do not have tap abilites. Additionaly plains walkers have a loyalty counter that functions as both a health and resourse used for their abilities. plainswalkers can be attacked and take damage from the creatures power to their loyalty counter. if their loyalts reaches 0 or below they are destroyed and go to the graveyard.
